CHAMBER

VOCAL

SOLO

ORCHESTRA

PERCUSSION

- Archers of Solitude (2007, 20'), for soprano, clarinet, marimba, and percussion sextet on texts by Wendall Berry. Each of the four songs is preceded by a prelude that sets the timbral and expressive mood of the text. The percussionists surround the audience and use sounds of nature such as running water, whirling tubes, and bird calls. The score has some improvisation and indeterminate notation. A lyrical and moving work. Commissioned by James Preiss, premiered by Tonal Center and the Mannes Percussion Ensemble (NYC).

- Balletti di Bronzo (2006, 15'), for solo marimba. A solo for marimba (five octaves, low C), in three movements. The first and the third are dance-like, the second is a waltz and variations. Medium level of difficulty, commissioned by Brian Fronzaglia, premiere TBA.

- Three Rossetti Songs (2006, 5') for soprano (or tenor) and vibraphone. Text in English by Christina Rossetti. Commissioned and premiered by Leesa Levy, North Dakota 2006.

- Wild Forebodings (2002, 10'), for solo marimba. Commissioned and premiered by Greg Giannascoli, Carnegie Weill Hall, NY 2002.

- Six Fleeting Moods (2002, 15'), for solo marimba. Commissioned by James Preiss. Premiered by Simon Boyar, NYC, 2004.

- The Karma Quintet (2000, 15'). Premiered by The Oberlin Percussion Group, Oberlin, OH 2002. A quintet in three movements. The two outer movements are fast, rhythmical and energetic, with different interlocking patterns, odd-time signatures and passages in rhythmical unison. The slow central movement has a more intimate and lyrical character. It emphasizes the mallet instruments (marimba, vibraphone, glockenspiel and antique cymbals) and has a four mallet cadenza for the marimba. Medium to high difficulty.

- Aldina (1999, 5')
A duo for vibraphone and soprano voice on a text in English by Christina Rossetti. A very moving piece, lyrical and intimate in character, with rather tonal vocal lines and a more chromatic vibraphone accompaniment. Medium level of difficulty. Commissioned and premiered by Federico Poli, Italy 2000.

- Concertino dell'incenso, for marimba and string orchestra (1998, 15'). Chamber version available. A concerto in one movement for marimba (low A) and string orchestra (can also be performed by a string quintet). It has fast rhythmical and slower lyrical sections, 4 mallet technique, a marimba cadenza. Medium level of difficulty for a concerto. Commissioned by Federico Poli. Premiered by Greg Giannascoli, with the Riverside Symphonia conducted by Mariusz Smolij, Lambertville, NJ 2001.

- Bushido (1996, 13')
A trio that emphasizes pitched instruments (marimba, vibraphone,
glockenspiel, timpani, chimes). It has atmospheric sections and more rhythmic and fast ones. Each performer has a short improvised cadenza based on guidelines indicated in the score. Medium level of difficulty. Premiered by The University of the Pacific Percussion Ensemble, San Jose, CA 1997.

- Pumping Up (1993, 15')
A duo for non pitched instruments. Fast and virtuosic, many rock/funky patterns, some improv on ostinato accompaniments. Difficult. Commissioned by Bob McEwan, premiered by the Mannes Percussion Ensemble, New York 1996.

- Partita for One Percussionist (1991, 10')
A solo for assorted instruments (mostly drums; also calls for marimba, vibraphone, bass drum, tamtam, no timpani). Some improv, a great show-off piece. Medium level of difficulty. Commissioned and premiered by Gionata Faralli, Italy 1992. Recorded by Federico Poli on the CMT label.

- Sbachetar (1987, 10')
A quartet based mostly on ostinato patterns, with a central section
emphasizing the use of rolls. Xylophone and timpani plus drums and accessories. Easy to play, it is also a great educational piece.
Commissioned and premiered by the Fiesole Percussion Quartet, Italy 1987.
